Raiders rally to beat the Braves

Co-captain Kari Belec’s third period goal gave the Nepean Raiders their second straight win, a 3-2 comeback victory over the Brockville Braves.

Nepean’s top ranked special teams were on the attack once again with Jordan Renaud (PP) and Nicholas Domitrovic (SH) providing secondary scoring for the visiting Raider side.

“We’re just starting to play the right way and it’s going great for us,” said head coach Darcy Findlay.

“Less stickwork, more bodies, leading with their sticks on pucks to break up plays and just staying out of the crap after the whistles. That combined with some good special teams has helped us win a couple games here,” Findlay said.

Goalie Liam Soulière was stellar in goal, turning aside 34 shots for his first career CCHL victory.

“He was outstanding. I thought they had some good scoring chances and he stood on his head, a couple minutes at a time in the second and third. He showed us what he’s all about,” Findlay said.

The game marked the Nepean debut of recent acquisition Colin McCaughey, who arrived via a trade with the AJHL’s Brooks Bandits on Thurs. McCaughey earned 4 PIM on the night.

Braves forward Eric Holland was Brockville’s offence on the night, potting two goals.

The Raiders finished up their four game road swing with a 3-1 record and will make their long anticipated return to Steve Yzerman Arena on Sun. against the Kemptville 73’s.
