Three in a row as Raiders take Kemptville

Make it three in a row! The Nepean Raiders downed the Kemptville 73’s 5-1 on Sun., the third-straight win for head coach Darcy Findlay’s squad.

Nepean was buoyed by stellar goaltending and a lethal offensive attack, in a game that saw eight different Raiders put their names on the box score.

The Raiders (6-8) moved into a tie with the Smiths Falls Bears in CCHL standings, with four less games played.

The loss sees Jeff Jordan’s 73’s (3-13-0-1) remain at the bottom of the league.

Forward Mackenzie White potted his first two CCHL goals while Liam Stagg (penalty shot), Antoine Belisle and Kari Belec earned other markers.

“We’re really gelling as a team here, putting the wins together. We just have to keep it going,” said White.

Leading scorer Malcolm Arseneau contributed to the offensive cause with two assists on the day.

Goalie Liam Soulière was still kept relatively busy despite the Raiders’ offensive barrage and made 29 saves for his second straight win.

“We’re playing as a team and we’re playing the whole 60 min. and it shows because we’re getting results. The guys are finding each other on the ice and we’re getting the bounces we weren’t getting at the start of the season.” said Soulière.

The league-leading Nepean power play was once again a factor, with White’s second goal coming with the man-advantage. Co-captain Belec’s third period breakaway goal gave the team a shorthanded goal in two-straight games.

The win gives the Raiders a 3-0 edge in the season series against the 73’s, taking two Sept. matches.

It also marked the team’s first home win on the year, in their return to the Nepean Sportplex for the first time since Sept. 24.

Nepean moves on to face the Ottawa Jr. Senators on Wed.
