Belisle’s late goal helps the Raiders defeat Bears

Antoine Belisle scored the game winning goal late  as the Nepean Raiders emerged victorious on the road over the Smiths Falls Bears, 4-2.

Left all alone in front of the net, the recently named CCHL player of the week tipped home a point shot with just under two min. to play.

Belisle’s goal was part of a three-goal third with the Bears’ holding a 2-1 lead well into the third.

Alex Bourhas potted his third to tie it and, after Belisle’s tally, Bryson Michel added an empty netter to put the game out of reach. Silas Mattawashish had the other Nepean goal.

“Tonight’s win was huge for us. That’s a team that we are chasing in the standings and now we’re just one point behind them,” said captain Corey Tam.

“And coming from behind just shows the character we have in our room, never quit mentality.”

The Raiders were finally able to beat Smiths Falls’ goalie Bradley Dobson who had a .956 sv % and one SO  in three games v NEP this year.

Kyle Alaverdy came up big, stopping 35 of 37 shots for his fifth win on the season and first since Nov. His counterpart, Dobson, stopped 32 of 35.

This win brings the Nepean Raiders’ record to (16-24-2-3). Nepean is at Ottawa Wed.
