The Raiders fall to Hawks 5 – 3

Led by forward Chris Smith’s hat trick, the Hawkesbury Hawks defeated the Nepean Raiders 5-3 on Sun. afternoon.

It was a high-flying offensive affair at both ends of the rink, with over 30 shots apiece. Liam Soulière made 28 saves in a solid effort.

Kari Belec continued his hot streak with 2 goals on the afternoon, this after a five-point night in Navan on Fri..

“I mean their d-zone coverage was probably the takeaway for us on the game. Just some mental lapses. Liam played really well for us so some tiny errors to clean up for Fri.,” said assistant coach Sean Bamford.

The game opened with two quick goals. Olivier Gauthier’s sixth opened the scoring for Nepean which was quickly countered by Smith’s first of the game.

In the second, Belec gave the Raiders the lead with his eighth. After two Hawkesbury tallies, Belec’s second tied it up midway through the third.

Two more Smith goals (1EN) ultimately sealed the deal for the home Raiders.

This loss brings the Nepean Raiders’ record to (9-13-0-0). They’re back in action at Carleton Place on Fri. night.
