Raiders slide back into win column with shootout victory

The Nepean Raiders and Brockville Braves needed some extra time, and then some, to settle the score Wed. night, but when it was all said and done the Raiders emerged victorious.

Olivier Gauthier and Mackenzie White both scored in the shootout to give the Raiders a 2-1 win, their eighth win on the year.

Mustachioed co-captain Kari Belec provided the offence during the first 60 min. poking a rebound by Brockville netminder Justin Evenson in the second stanza.

Goalie Liam Soulière made 41 stops in his eighth start on the year and was a wall in the shootout, stopping both Brockville chances.

“He played a heck of a game, made some crucial saves when we needed it. The slide to the backdoor save led to (Belec’s) goal on the power play and that was a huge turning point for us,” said assistant coach Sean Bamford.

Forward Antoine Belisle had a chance to end it early in the overtime period when he sent a one-timer on net off an odd-man rush. A beautiful windmill glove save by Evenson kept the game going, and Belisle shaking his head.

“Oh yeah, for sure (I was frustrated)! In overtime you want to put it in, it was a nice pass from Mac (Arseneau) and he made a nice save,“ said forward Antoine Belisle.

“I thought we played pretty well, sometimes in the d-zone we’ve got to be better and making some bad turnovers especially in the first period. But overall we played much better and we got two-points so that’s all that matters,” said Belisle.

The teams last met on Oct. 13 where Nepean earned a 3-2 road win.

Nepean will play at Navan on Fri. night.
