Q & A Co-Captain Kari Belec

The 6-0 Kari Belec is the second of our co-captains this season. The two-way forward has two points in six games on the year, his third in Nepean. We caught up with Kari…

Nicknames?

Kari Belec: Most of the guys on the team just call me Belly.

How did you spend your summer? (training/events)

KB: Mostly just work, working out and spending the weekends at the cottage with my family.

You’re currently at the University of Ottawa. What are you studying? How are you finding post-secondary education?

KB: I’m in biomed. It’s fun, it’s fun. I’m very passionate about the sciences and learning about the body. I like it a lot.

Billet situation?

KB: I’m living with Kim Johnson, I think it’s her seventh maybe eighth year of billeting for the Raiders. It’s my third year with her and she’s the best. Nice house, good family, cute dog. I love it there.

Which teammate gives you the best passes?

KB: I’d say (d-man) Mikey Thomas makes some good passes, some good first passes so I’ll have to go with him.

Go to breakaway move?

KB: I like to say backhand fivehole but the past couple of times I’ve tried to shoot fivehole and it hasn’t been working out too good lately.

Some Raiders recently went to see It? Your thoughts?

KB: It was pretty scary but pretty funny too. I think the funniest part was watching our goalie Kyle Alaverdy. The kid was terrified the entire time, just covering his eyes. It was good going with all the guys and seeing how scared they were. I was pretty freaked out, covering my eyes too. Three and a half stars.

You’ve spent much of your adulthood in Moncton, N.B. What can you tell us about the city?

Centennial Park:

KB: Yeah, it’s really nice there. Really nice in the fall when the leaves change colour by the water there. Really nice walking trails.

Magnetic Hill Zoo:

Five stars, five out of five stars, that place is awesome! Good animals, tigers are really cool there. You can pet the goats at the petting zoo.

Moncton’s designation as 2007 “most polite city” in Canada by Reader’s Digest:

Well, it depends on which part you’re in, in downtown Moncton or over in Dieppe they’re usually pretty nice.
