Kanata’s Merrell continues to haunt Raiders in 5-3 loss

Chad Merrell continued his dominance of the Nepean Raiders this season with a three-point night in a 5-3 Kanata Lasers’ win.

Merrell, a native of Boca Raton, FL, had two goals and an assist, with his second tally the winner. The forward now has five goals and two assists in four games against Nepean this year including the OT winner in a Dec. 3 meeting.

Coming off a wild 7-6 win against the Brockville Braves on Wed., the Raiders were unable to get much of anything in the game.

After a scoreless first period, the Lasers added two in the second before skating to a 4-1 lead by the middle of the third.

Head Coach Darcy Findlay said he was happy with his team’s efforts in the latter half of the game where goals were notched by Olivier Gauthier, Liam Stagg and James Buckley.

In a physical matchup – 18 total penalties – the Raiders were only able to go 1/10 with the man advantage. Kanata was able to bury two of their six chances for goals.

Liam Souliere turned aside 34 of 39 for the loss while counterpart Logan Bateman stopped 28 for the ‘W.’

The Raiders are in Rockland Fri. night.
