McEwan Stops 40 in 2-1 Win Over Wolves

The Nepean Raiders traveled to the Ma-Te-Way Activity Center to face off against the Renfrew Wolves. The two teams engaged in an exciting matchup. In the first period, the Raiders struck first at 17:49, with Lleyton McLean scoring a goal, assisted by Joshua Reid and Nicolas Papineau. It was the only goal in the opening stanza as Nepean took a 1-0 lead into dressing room.

The second period saw the Raiders extend their lead. Peter Freel scored at 14:33, with an assist from Kendel Geier. The wrap-around goal was Freel’s second goal of the season. The Wolves were determined to get on the scoreboard, but Brady McEwan turned aside all 18 shots face in the middle frame and the period ended with Nepean leading 2-0.

The Renfrew Wolves mounted a comeback effort in the third period. Jace Letourneau found the back of the net with one minute left in the game beating McEwan high over the glove side. The goal was assisted by Dane Carter and Andrew Morton, cutting the Raiders’ lead to 2-1. Despite a late surge, the Wolves couldn’t find the equalizer, and the game ended with the Nepean Raiders securing a 2-1 victory giving them four straight wins. It is the longest streak for Nepean since they reeled off seven in a row during the 2017/2018 season that saw them go undefeated from February 14 to March 6.

Brady McEwan of the Nepean Raiders was named the game’s first star for his outstanding performance in goal, stopping 40 of 41 shots. Lleyton McLean, with a goal in the first period, was the second star, and Jace Letourneau’s late goal earned him the third star of the game. The game was characterized by strong goaltending and competitive play, making it a thrilling matchup for the fans.

The Raiders are right back at it for a Sunday matinee at the Nepean Sportsplex for a 2:30pm puck-drop.
