Mallendra Scores Overtime Winning Goal Against Carleton Place

by Romano Di Franco

The Nepean Raiders came back to the Sportsplex Steve Yzerman Arena for the final day of the CCHL Showcase by welcoming the Carleton Place Canadians. For instance, the Nepean Raiders came into the game in the hopes of moving forward from the 3-1 loss to the Kemptville 73s. Meanwhile the Canadians are hoping to move forward from a 6-2 loss to the Rockland Nationals.

For the starting goalies, Otsirakatste Brant who came into the game going 3-0 on the season got the start for the Nepean Raiders. Meanwhile Ethan Suski got the start for the Carleton Place Canadians having alowwed two goals in relief in that aforementioned game.

There were no goals to report in the first period because the goalies were just remarkable in the game with Suski for Carleton Place and Brant for Nepean.

Both teams were expecting a goaltender’s duel. That was until later on the second period when NcWana scored twice in the second period to give the Raiders a comfortable 2-0 lead until two quick goals from William Gray and Henry Doucet scored two quick goals to make the game back in a tie.

Cooling did add a goal to make a 3-2 lead for the Carleton Place Canadians, but it set the tone for an epic conclusion to the game because Adam Walker scored his seventh goal of the season to tie the game at three.

Both goalies made great saves at the Overtime setting up the game winning goal for Jack Malendra. It was his second goal of the season and his first career game winning goal in the CCHL. Nepean capped off the showcase going 1-1.

For the three star selections, having scored the game winning goal Jack Malendra had been rewarded the first star of the game for the Raiders. For his two goal performance, Hunter NcWana was the second star of the game for Nepean and finally for his one goal and one assist performance, William Gray has been given the third star of the game for the Carleton Place Canadians.

Nepean’s next game takes place on Wednesday against the Navan Grads at the Sportsplex for a 7:30PM puck drop.
