Yates Scores Twice In 6-4 Loss To Kemptville

The Nepean Raiders travelled to the North Greenville Municipal Centre to play their penultimate game of their five game road trip to visit the Kemptville 73s. The Raiders came into this game havign shown some great work ethic in a 7-6 overtime loss against the Cornwall Colts. The 73s came off their 7-3 victory over the Hawkesbury Hawks. For the starting goalies Otsirakatste Brant got the start in goal having made 33 of the 37 saves he made in a 4-3 loss to the Pembroke Lumber Kings. Tristan Bennett who was very solid in his last start against the Ottawa Junior Senators was in goal for the game again.

The 73s scored the first two goals of the game from Dylan McDougall and Matthew O’Doherty. The Raiders would then cut the lead in half thanks to Carter Williamson’s eighth goal of the season on the powerplay assisted from David Taylor and Tristan Konobelj. Although each team had their fair share of goals scored, the shots on goal were even at twelve a piece.

In the second period, Alexis Beaulieu helped Kemptville restore their two goal advantage on a great wrap around goal. The Raiders would respond when Maasilan Etchart scored going five hole on Tristan Bennett. It was his second consecutive goal dating back to last nights game. The 73s would score the next two goals from Aidan Stubbings and Mathieu Fehr. Nepean would score one goal shortly before the end of the second period and it was Jack Yates who scored on the backhand. It was his first goal since the Raiders home-opening game against the Ottawa Junior Senators on September 22nd.

By the end of the second period, the 73s outshot the Raiders 15-14.

Thirty five seconds into the third period, Kemptville would restore their three goal advantage when Dylan McDougall scored his second goal of the game. Jack Yates would score his second goal of the game on a deflection shot by Owen Kinghan who was involved in a scrum last night with Colby Lauzon. Despite the Raiders outshooting the 73s 16-7, that would be it as the 73s held on to defeat the Nepean Raiders 6-4.

The game was action-packed with a solid performance by the 73’s on both offense and power plays. Dylan McDougall shone with two goals, and Nicholas Bennett played a pivotal role as a playmaker with four assists. Jack Yates gave a strong effort for the Raiders, contributing two goals.

Nepean plays out the final game of their five game road trip on Sunday, January 25th when they visit the defending Bogart Cup champions Navan Grads at the Navan Memorial Centre for a 3:30PM puck drop.
