Yates and Benoit Score in Loss to Navan Grads

The Nepean Raiders made it back home following a tremendous Saturday night affair against the Renfrew Wolves. The Navan Grads on the other hand came into this game on a three game losing streak. For the starting goalies, John Gedraitis who was given one day off on Saturday got the start for the Raiders. Cooper Flemming whose last start was in a 4-1 loss to the Cornwall Colts at the Benson Centre got the call for the Grads.

Once again the Nepean Raiders opened the scoring this time around it was on Luka Benoit’s sixth goal of the season assisted from Carter Williamson. It was Williamson’s seventh point in the last nine games.

The Raiders extended their lead to 2-0 on the strength of Jack Yates’ fifth goal of the season. This was his second goal in as many games dating back to yesterday’s game against the Renfrew Wolves. Luka Benoit and Nicholas Larkin got the assists.

Just before the the first period ended, the Grads cut the Raiders lead in half on the strength of Mathieu Parent’s fifth goal of the season. Chris Barlas and Shayle Simons got the assists.

The second period was filled with an intense scrimmage as Nepean and Navan got into some semi fist fights with each other. Although the Raiders and the Grads exchanged shots on goal, Cooper Flemming and John Gedraitis stood very tidy in goal each.

The third period was all Navan Grads as they closed out the scoring with goals from Tyler Meireles, Owen Knight, Chris Barlas and Shayle Simons all got the goals in the third period for the Navan Grads.

For the three star selection, for his four point performance, Chris Barlas was named the first star of the game for Navan, for his 39 save performance, John Gedraitis was rewarded the second star of the game for the Nepean Raiders and last but not least having scored a goal and two assists, Mathieu Parent was named the third star of the game for the Grads.

Nepean’s next game will take place on Wednesday October 15th against the Kemptville 73s.
