Williamson Extends Point Streak in 3-1 Loss to Navan

The Nepean Raiders travelled to the Navan Memorial Centre for a snowy Sunday afternoon contest against the Navan Grads.

Nepean was coming off a fantastic home and home sweep against the Hawkesbury Hawks, meanwhile for the Grads this was their first game since last week against the Cornwall Colts. In that game, Navan had a 4-1 lead in which they squandered it at the end. That was their opening game at the Navan Memorial Centre.

For the starting goalie, Otsirakatste Brant who has been incredible since taking over in goal for John Gedraitis got the start again for the Raiders and Cooper Flemming got the call for the Grads today in goal.

It was a scrappy first period on both ends at the rink with both teams exchanging shots on net. In fact, the only goal to report in that first period was from Jack Johnson who scored his first career CCHL goal. Matthew D’urso and Christopher Barlas drew the assists.

Although this was the only goal scored in the first period, Otsirakatste Brant was tremendous in goal for the Nepean Raiders stooping 15 of the 16 shots in that period itself.

Two minutes into the second period, Carter Williamson tied the game at one a piece. It was Williamson’s tenth goal of the campaign assisted from Tristan Konobelj and Raphael Tellier. It was also his fifth point in the last six games.

The Grads regained the lead on a goal from Owen Knight which was his fifth goal on the season. Wake Purdy and Braydon Lindsay drew the assists.

Just like in the first period, Otsirakatse Brant was wonderful in net in the second period stopping 10 of the 12 shots he faced.

The third period was filled with the Nepean Raiders attempting to the tie the game at two or the Navan Grads extending the lead to two. In the end, Shayle Simons put the icing on the cake on his fourth of the year. Matt Paris and Christopher Barlas got the assists.

For the three start selections, for his first career CCHL goal Jack Johnson got the first star for the Navan Grads, Cooper Flemming who was equally outstanding got the second star for Navan and Otsirakatste Brant was named the third star for Nepean having made 32 of the 34 shots.

Nepean’s next game will take place on Wednesday November 26th when they welcome the Kemptville 73s to the Yzerman Arena. You can listen to the game on FloHockey as well as 97.5 Moose FM
