The Nepean Raiders travelled to the Rockland Arena Pad 1 to play against the Carleton Place Canadiens for the last pre-season game of their schedule. For the starting goalies, John Gedraitis who was fabulous in his previous game against the Hawkesbury Hawks got the start in goal for the Raiders, Ian Vadenberg was in goal for the Canadiens. Even though there were no goals in the first period, the Nepean Raiders were the dominant team in the first period outshooting the Carleton Place Canadiens 11-6.
The score remained that way until William Derbyshire scored with 12:19 to go in the second period. Owen Smetham got the only assist. Late in the period, Carter Williamson continued his tremendous pre-season when he scored his fourth goal with forty seconds to go. Peter Freel and Tristan Konobelj assisted on the goal.
Once again the Nepean Raiders outshot the Carleton Place Canadians 8-7, but Ian Vadenberg limited any damage done by the great attack from the Raiders.
In the third period the Carleton Place Canadians scored two quick goals when Sam Allaby and Ryan Small got on the scoresheet. Although Nepean got one goal back from a long shot from the point by John Lumsden, Carleton Place got the last two goals from Grayson Pardy and Jaxon Mcvie-Stevenson respectively.
Overall, the Nepean Raiders outshot the Carleton Place Canadiens 31-26 but Ian Vadenberg was a brick-wall in the crease. Nepean is looking to continue the great work ethic that was shown by the newcomers and returning players.
Nepean’s first game of the regular season will be held on Saturday, September 14th when they face off against the Cornwall Colts at the Benson Centre for the CCHL Showcase.
