Stagg’s OT winner the difference against Lumber Kings

Liam Stagg scored his eighth of the year with 15 seconds remaining in overtime, giving the Nepean Raiders a 4-3 win over the visiting Pembroke Lumber Kings.

Stagg’s goal was a heavy wrister from the right side of the ice that went over Lumber King goalie Jake Smith’s glove. It provided some welcome relief for Darcy Findlay’s Nepean squad, who lead 3-1 with five min. remaining in the game.

The game was close for its first 40 min. before quick goals from James Buckley and Ryan Horvath in the first two min. of the third gave Nepean the lead.

The Lumber Kings got within one with a goal from Casey Rhodes before Brendan Browne tied it with 49 seconds remaining.

Antoine Belisle was the other Nepean goalscorer.

Liam Souliere stopped 43 of 46 including two huge stops in the game’s extra time. Smith turned aside 31 of 35.

The Raiders penalty kill was perfect, forcing Pembroke to go 0/7 on the night.

The victory is the first for the Raiders in five games this season.

Nepean will host Hawkesbury on Sun.
