by Romano Di Franco

The Nepean Raiders travelled to the Jim Durrell Sports Complex for game 2 for the rivalry against the Ottawa Junior Senators. Nepean came into this game having dominated the Renfrew Wolves 6-0 while the Junior Senators dropped their last four straight game. With the shutout, John Gedraitis got the start in goal for the Raiders. Noah Paddock got the call for the Junior Senators tonight.  Here’s a quick recap of the game:

The Junior Senators got on the board first when Clement Valette scored on a turnover by David Taylor. Luckily, the Nepean Raiders responded with their own goal scored unassisted when Carson McGurn capitalized on a giveaway by Justin Monaghan to tie the game at one. The Junior Senators would take the lead again when Jack Matsukubo fired a shot over the shoulder of John Gedraitis and into the net. It was his tenth goal of the season and his second goal against his former team the Raiders.

The shots on net would be a close 13-12 for the Junior Senators by the end of the first period.

The Junior Senators lead would be short-lived when Luka Benoit shoveled home his tenth goal of the season. John Lumsden and Liam Carroll would provide the assists. With his 18th assist, Lumsden would continue to lead the Raiders in assists and points for a defenseman this season.

Tyler Smith would score his fifth goal of the season to help the Raiders take the lead at 3-2. Nick Houben drew the only assist.

The shots on net would be 14-7 in favor of the Raiders in the second period.

Despite the Junior Senators outshooting the Raiders 11-10 in the third period, there were no goals in the third which means that the Smith goal in the second period was the game-winning goal. With that, Nepean will conclude the month of October having won three straight games.

The final shots on net were 36-31 in favor of the Raiders.

Three Stars of the Game:

  1. Tyler Smith (Nepean Raiders): 1 goal
  2. Luka Benoit (Nepean Raiders): 1 goal
  3. Jack Matsukubo (Ottawa Junior Senators): 1 goal, 1 assist

Not only did Nepean, win their third straight game, but they also evened the season-series one game a piece. The rivalry will only get intense as the season-series rolls along.

Nepean’s next game will be held on Friday, November 1st when they travel to the Navan Memorial Centre to face off against the reigning Bogart Cup Champion Navan Grads.
