The Nepean Raiders travelled to the Rockland CIHA Arena for a snowy Friday night to square off against the first place Rockland Nationals.
The former Ottawa Junior Senator in Evan Grant got the start for the Raiders and Ty Ferguson was net for the Nats.
Rockland wasted no time in getting on the board first on Nolan Turnbull’s fifth goal of the season assisted from Justin Garneau and Noah Laframboise. Four minutes later, the Raiders would tie the score at one from Ryan English’s third goal of the campaign assisted from Jack Yates and Cole Stants.
The Nationals would regain their lead when Gabriel Le Houllier scored his league leading 53rd goal of the year assisted from Maverik Brunet.
Although, Rockland outshot Nepean 11-8, Evan Grant was great in that first period making nine of the eleven saves in the game.
The second period was all Rockland Nationals as Jeremy Belleau and Felix Pomerleau scored the goals for the Nats in that frame alone.
Instead of folding, the Nepean Raiders made things interesting when they scored three straight goals from Julian Kemp, Lucas Leblanc and Jack Yates.
As a result, these goals allowed the Raiders to take Rockland to overtime. With one twenty three to go, it was Maverik Brunet who scored the game winning goal. Although the Nepean Raiders fell short, they still put up a clinic in the game itself.
For the three star selection, with the game winning goal scored in overtime, Maverik Brunet was handed the first star of the game for Rockland, for his two assist performance, Justin Garneau was named the second star of the game for Rockland and finally for his one goal and one assist performance, Ryan English was rewarded the third star of the game for the Nepean Raiders.
Nepean’s next game will take place on Sunday, February 22nd when they host the Cornwall Colts.
