Raiders Take Canadians In Shootout

by Romano Di Franco

The Nepean Raiders travelled to the Carleton Place Arena for their mini two game road trip starting with a game against the Carleton Place Canadians. Both teams came off their respective victories. For instance Nepean was fresh off a terrific game against the Cornwall Colts in which they won in a nail bitter 3-2. While the Canadians also held on to beat the Kemptville 73s 3-2.

Otsirakatste Brant who was fantastic in his previous start in that aforementioned game got the start in goal for the visiting Nepean Raiders and Ottawa 67s prospect Liam Conway got the call in goal for Carleton Place.

Nepean got off to a fast start to the game when they scored the first two goals from Tyler Smith and Raphael Tellier respectively. As for Tellier’s goal, it was his third of the season against the Canadians.

Carleton Place would cut the Raiders lead in half when Nathan Landriault scored his seventh of the year assisted from Graydon Mears. The Raiders went on to outshoot Carleton Place 16-5.

The Canadians would tie the game at two from Tristan Witmer’s fourth goal of the campaign assisted from John Collins Williams. Carleton Place’s lead was short lived when Spencer Thompson fired a shot from the point that fools Liam Conway for his seventh marker of the season. The Russell Ontario native continued to dominate the CCHL in goals by a defenseman. Could he become another Ray Bourque?

The Canadians would answer back on Logan Wilson’s third goal of the year which tied the game at three. At the end of the second period, the shots on net were tied at twelve a piece.

The Raiders and the Canadians played very scrappy in the third period and as a result of that, they were no goals to report in that period alone.

After nothing could be decided in overtime, the two teams duked it out into the shootout. Logan Wilson’s goal was the only one that was required in the shootout.

As for the three star selections, with his 41 save performance and having gone three for three in the shootout Liam Conway was rewarded the first star for Carleton Place, Otsirakatste Brant who was fantastic again for the Nepean Raiders stopping 29 of the 32 shots was handed the second star and Logan Wilson who scored the game winning goal in the shootout is the third star.

Nepean’s next game will take place on Friday November 14th when they visit the Kemptville 73s at the North Greenville Municipal Centre.
