The Nepean Raiders went down on the road to visit the Brockville Braves at the Brockville Memorial Centre for a classic Halloween tilt. Nepean was fresh off a 7-4 loss to the Cornwall Colts while the Braves came off a blowout loss to the Pembroke Lumber Kings. For the starting goalies, John Gedraitis who was in net for the Raiders in that aforementioned game was in goal again for Nepean and Nate Galbraith got the start for the Braves.
Brockville had some quality scoring chances earlier in the game including when they assumed to have scored the first goal of the game only for the Nepean defense to sweep the puck back to safety. Gedraitits when down with an injury ten minutes into the game, he was replaced by Otsirakatste Brant who was in net for the remainder of the game.
The only goal of the first period was from Lucas Leblanc who scored his third goal in two games dating back to yesterday against the Cornwall Colts. Carter Williamson and Nicholas Larkin got the assists on that only goal.
Nepean added another one in the early part of the second period when Luka Benoit fired home his tenth of the season assisted from Tyler Smith and Ryan English. The Brockville Braves took over for the rest of the second period as they got goals from Dryden Dervish, Aiden Carolan and Jack Lowry.
The Raiders refused to go down without a fight in the third period. A minute and twenty one seconds into that frame, Spencer Thompson continued his defenseman domination as he scored his seventh of the season. It was the only goal of the third period as the game went into overtime.
Nepean had a wonderful chance to put a bow on the game when Carter Willliamson fired a shot only for Nate Galbraith to stop him blocker side.
After nothing can be settled in overtime, the game went into a sudden-death shootout when Will Robb scored the only goal required in the shootout.
It was a memorable game for the Raiders nonetheless as fans can look forward to future matchups against these two teams.
For the three star selections, Will Robb who scored the lone shootout goal was awarded the first star of the game, Ryan English who celebrated his two assist outing was rewarded the second star of the game for the Nepean Raiders. Finally, Dryden Dervish was given the third star for his first career CCHL goal.
Nepean’s next game will take place on Sunday, November 2nd when the Smiths Falls Bears come to town at the Nepean Sportsplex Steve Yzerman Arena.
