The Nepean Raiders played out the the first four of their next six games on home ice by welcoming the Ottawa Junior Senators for game three of their provincial rivalry against each other. The Junior Senators were coming off a 6-3 victory against the Brockville Braves less than 24 hours earlier. The Raiders were coming off an excellent work ethic despite a tough 3-2 shootout loss to the Carleton Place. For the starting goalies, John Gredraitis who is 3-0-1 in his last four games with a sub 2.00 GAA this past week got the start for the Raiders. Meanwhile Josh Scully who was in goal having gotten the game off yesterday got the start for the visiting Junior Senators. Here’s a summary of the game between the Ottawa Junior Senators (OJS) and the Nepean Raiders (NEP):
The Nepean Raiders didn’t take long to get on the scoreboard first as Luka Benoit scored his twelfth goal of the season one minute and three seconds into the game. Nicolas Papineau and John Lumsden drew the assists. It was his nineteenth assist as this leads all Raiders defensemen in that department.
The Junior Senators responded with their own powerplay goal when Tristan Poor scored his third goal of the season assisted by Gabriel Pelchat and Lucas Guilllemette.
By the end of the first period, the Raiders outshot the Junior Senators 15-13.
Even though the second period had no goals. The second period still had some pretty good Grade A scoring chances including when Josh Scully alertedly dove down to make the save.
The game remained a 1-1 tie until late in the third period when Dylan Pollock scored on a one timer. It was his fifth goal of the season assisted from Nick Houben and Tyler Smith.
The Raiders then put the icing on the cake when Tyler Smith scored his sixth goal of the season assisted from Liam Carroll.
From there it was game over as the Nepean Raiders celebrated a 3-1 victory and what may be John Gedraitis’ best game of the year.
Three Stars of the Game:
- John Gedraitis (Nepean Raiders): 37 saves on 38 shots, playing the full 60 minutes.
- Tyler Smith (Nepean Raiders): 1 goal, 1 assist.
- Josh Scully (Ottawa Junior Senators): 32 saves on 34 shots, playing 59:21.
This game was marked by solid goaltending and penalty kills on both sides, but Nepean’s late third-period goals secured their victory.
Nepean’s next game will be held on Wednesday, November 13th when the Kemptville 73s come to town. Nepean is hoping to continue their winning ways until then.
