The Nepean Raiders visited the Cornwall Colts at the Ed Lumley Arena for this middle game of their five game road trip. The Raiders came into this game having lost to the Pembroke Lumber Kings 4-3 in regulation. Cornwall’s previous game was one they wanted to forget about as they would lose 7-2 to the Brockville Braves. John Gedraitis who helped the Raiders take it into overtime in his previous start against the Carleton Place Canadians got the nod in goal for the Raiders. Caleb Chabot who was pretty solid in his last start against the Pembroke Lumber Kings got the start for the Colts.
This first period was all Cornwall Colts as not only did they score three goals from Brayden Bowen who scored twice in the period and Sean Matthew Goyette, but they also outshot the Raiders 22-5.
The second period saw the Colts tally two more goals from Brayden Bowen as they expanded the lead to 5-0. The Raiders made things interesting as Peter Freel, Maasilan Etchart and Nick Houben helped draw the Raiders closer. Two of those goals came on the powerplay. Etchart’s goal was his first goal of the season and his first in a Raiders uniform. Cornwall extended the lead to 6-3 when Lyndon Lamb capitalized on a nice feed from Camden McCuaig. By the end of the second period, the Nepean Raiders would outshoot the Cornwall Colts 10-6.
In the third period, the Raiders clawed themselves back into the game with goals from Tyler Smith, Dylan Pollock and Nick Houben. Houben’s goal was the game tying goal with twenty five seconds to go to force overtime.
The overtime session would not last long as Tristan Miron scored twenty five seconds into the period to send the Colts fans home happy.
The Raiders were not too beat up about it as their four powerplay goals helped them receive a huge boost as their powerplay is in second place in the entire CCHL standings.
For the three star selection with his four goal performance, Brayden Bowen was the named the first star of the game, Triston Miron who scored the game winning goal was given the game’s second star and Nick Houben who scored twice in the game including the game tying goal earned him the third star of the game.
Nepean’s next game will take place tomorrow when they visit the Kemptville 73s at the North Greenville Municipal Centre for a 7:30PM puck drop.
