The Nepean Raiders played the first part of their home portion of the 2024-25 season against their provincial rivals the Ottawa Junior Senators. For the starting goalies, Otsirakatste Brant made his first career CCHL start while Josh Scully who had a rough outing against the Rockland Nationals allowing eight goals in an 8-2 loss was in goal for the visiting Junior Senators.
Ottawa got on the board first with Ethan Lobe scored his first career CCHL goal. Felix Bellfoy and Xavier Guillemette got the assists. The lead would not last long as Riley Streska tied the game at one a piece when he unleashed a cannon of a shot. Carter Williamson and Spencer Thompson drew the helpers on that marker.
By the end of the first period, the Nepean Raiders outshot the Junior Senators a whooping 16-5, but Josh Scully stole the show in that frame.
The second period was all Ottawa as they scored the next three goals from Chase Bailey-Reid, Xavier Guillemette and Jack Matsukubo. It was his third goal of the season and his first against his former team having played for the Raiders during the 2022-23 season.
In the third period, the Junior Senators added another goal when Antoine Demers scored a minute and thirty two seconds in. Nepean appeared to have sparked a come back when they got goals from Jack Yates and Carson McGurn. It was Jack Yates’ first career CCHL goal.
Late in the third, Antoine Demers scored his second goal of the game when the net appeared to have been dislodged. Despite some protests from the Raiders, the goal still stood.
Peter Freel would score with seven seconds to go in the game, but that would be it.
By the end of the game, it was the Nepean Raiders who put the pressure on the Ottawa Junior Senators having outshot them 44-25. In the end it was Josh Scully who stood tall in the game as he stopped 40 shots in the game.
