by Romano Di Franco

The Nepean Raiders played host to the Carleton Place Canadiens in the last game of their brief two-game home stand. The team was coming off an epic 4-3 shootout win against the Smiths Falls Bears and the Raiders aimed to continue their successful week into the first week of October. For the starting goalies, John Gedraitis was given a game off, so the start went to Otsirakatste Brant. Meanwhile for the Carleton Place Canadiens, Ian Vadenberg got the call in goal.

There were no goals in the first period despite the Raiders pooring the pressure on the Canadiens outshooting them 17-6. Nepean’s best chance in the first period came when Tristan Konobelj had a good scoring opportunity going 2-on-1, but was denied by Vadenberg.

The game remained 0-0, until six minutes and twenty seven seconds into the second period when Luka Benoit scored on a one-timer to make it 1-0 for Nepean. It was the second straight game that they scored first. Carson McGurn and Nicolas Papineau drew the assists.

The next two goals came from the visiting Carleton Place Canadiens when Miller Kay and Loic Prud’homme scored to make it 2-1.

At the end of the second period, it was the Canadiens who outshot the Raiders 12-10.

Things got pretty interesting in the third period, Jackson Froyland scored his first career CCHL goal assisted from Jonah Henderson. It was Henderson’s first point against his former team. Nepean did get a goal back when Dylan Turcotte scored his second goal of the year assisted from Liam Carroll and Peter Freel.

With eight minutes to go, Jaxon McVie Stevenson and Spencer Thompson were involved in a bit of a mini-scrum when Stevenson delivering some high hits in a dandy.

By the end of the third period, the Raiders overwhelmed the Canadiens by outshooting them 16-1, but still it was the Carleton Place Canadiens that came out on top.

Three Stars:

  1. Ian Vandenberg (CP): 43 shots against, 41 saves.
  2. Otsirakatste Brant (NEP): 19 shots against, 16 saves.
  3. Loic Prud’homme (CP): 1 goal, 1 assist.

The game will be remembered by Nepean’s best scoring chances having outshot the Carleton Place Canadiens 43-19. That set up a memorable game for these two teams.

Nepean’s next game will be held on Friday October 4th when they travel to the Robert Hartley Sports Complex to visit the Hawkesbury Hawks.
