The Nepean Raiders returned back home to the Nepean Sportsplex Steve Yzerman Arena to play host to the Cornwall Colts. They came into this game holding on to a playoff spot. Both teams were coming off OT losses. For instance, Nepean came off a 5-4 OT loss to the Rockland Nationals whereas Cornwall would fall just short to the Smiths Falls Bears.

For the starting goalies, Otsirakatste Brant was in goal for the Nepean Raiders and Colton Rheaume got the start in goal for the Colts.

Cornwall got on the board first when Adam Walker scored his twelfth goal of the season on the powerplay assisted from Wyatt Warner and Derek Rhodes. Nepean answered back on the strength of Jackson Legault’s third goal of the campaign assisted from Ryan Kingan and Karsten Barbeau.

Although the score was tied at one at the end of the first period, it was the Raiders who outshot Cornwall 12-9.

The Colts regained the lead when Joe Vida scored his second goal of the season again on the powerplay assisted from Camden McCuaig. Nepean responded by creating a two on one rush created by Lucas Leblanc and Ben Kozyra, but in the end it was Tristan Konobelj who finsihed the play off by scoring his seventh to tie the game at two.

The score remained tied at two as well as the game turning out to be a goaltender’s duel throughout the game, that was until Mack McKee scored his second goal of the game which turned out to be the game winning goal.

The Raiders then sealed the deal on the strength of Julian Kemp’s third goal of the campaign assisted from Lucas Leblanc and Mason Rotando.

Although the shots on net were even at thirty three a piece, it was the Nepean Raiders who came out on top as they won the game by a final score of 4-2.

For the three star selection, with the empty netter it was Julian Kemp who nabbed the first star of the game for the Raiders, having stopped 31 of the 33 shots in the game it was Otsirakatste Brant that was rewarded the second star of the game for the Raiders and finally for his 29 save performance it was Colton Rheuame who was given the third star of the game for the Cornwall Colts.

Nepean has one more game to close out the month of February when they visit the Smiths Falls Bears at the Smiths Falls Memorial Centre on Friday February 27th.
