Raiders Defeat Wolves In Shootout

by Romano Di Franco

The Nepean Raiders travelled back home to the Sportsplex to host the Renfrew Wolves for this Sunday afternoon tilt. Nepean came into this game having lost 3-0 to the Brockville Braves but are looking for a bounce back game.

Meanwhile, Renfrew was fresh off a 5-1 victory against the Pembroke Lumber Kings. For the starting goalies, Evan Grant got the start in goal for the Raiders and Recce Hermann was in goal for the visiting Wolves.

There were no goals to report in that first period, but Evan Grant was spectacular stopping all 14 shots he faced in that first period itself.

The Raiders got on the board first when Lucas Leblanc scored his eleventh goal of the season assisted from Tristan Konobelj. Renfrew scored the next two goals from Theo Avilla and John Collins Williams.

Instead of folding, the Nepean Raiders tied the game on a goal from Ryan Kinghan to force the game into extra time.

After nothing could be decided in overtime, the game went to a shootout. Although Dylan Paron scored in the shootout for Renfrew, Karsten Barbeau and Tristan Konobelj scored to cap the shootout for Nepean for their sixteenth win of the year.

For the three selections, for his 34 save performance Evan Grant was named the first star of the game for the Nepean Raiders. With the game winning goal scored in the shootout Tristan Konobelj was given the second star of the game for the Raiders and with his 31 save effort Recce Hermann was rewarded the third star for the Renfrew Wolves.

Nepean’s next game will take place on Tuesday March 10th when they visit the Navan Grads at the Navan Memorial Centre.
