The Nepean Raiders travelled to the Ed Lumley Arena at Cornwall Ontario to begin a brief two-game road trip against the Cornwall Colts. Nepean has played Cornwall once before and that was in Day One of the CCHL Showcase when the Colts won that game by a final score of 8-1. For the starting goalies, Otsirakatste Brant who was great in his last start against the Renfrew Wolves made his second consecutive start while Caleb Chabot made his first start as a Colt.
There was no scoring until Bradley Fraser opened the scoring for the Colts. Sean Matthew Goyette and Brayden Bowen drew the assists. The shots on net were a measly 5-4 in favor of the Raiders.
Cornwall added another goal when Tristan Miron scored his eighth marker of the year. Luc Beliveau and Justin Ouellette assisted on the goal. The Raiders got on the board when Luka Benoit tallied home his seventh goal of the campaign. Deklyn Campbell got the only assist on the goal. The Colts would restore the lead when Luc Beliveau scored his third goal of the year assisted from Zack Speck-Meek and Sean Matthew Goyette.
In the second period, the Cornwall Colts would outshoot the Raiders 11-10.
Nepean would get one goal back in the third period when Peter Freel scored his fifth goal of the year assisted from Carson McGurn and Tristan Konobelj, but that would be it as the Cornwall Colts held on to win by a score of 3-2 despite Nepean outshooting Cornwall 10-6.
Despite Nepean outshooting Cornwall 25-21, Cornwall’s goalie Caleb Chabot was a standout, saving 23 of 25 shots to earn second star of the game. Sean Matthew Goyette of Cornwall, who had two assists, was named first star, while Peter Freel of Nepean, who scored a goal, was named third star.
Both teams were unable to capitalize on power-play opportunities, with Cornwall going 0/2 and Nepean 0/3.
Best of all, Nepean would kill off both penalties.
The Raiders next game will be tomorrow when they visit the Brockville Braves at the Brockville Memorial Centre for a 7:30PM puck drop. Also, Nepean is hoping to continue their mastery streak against the Braves as well.
