The Nepean Raiders visited the Renfrew Wolves at the myFM Recreational Complex for not only this last game of a two game road trip. This was also the fifth and final meeting for these two teams of the regular season. The Raiders came off a 7-4 loss to the Navan Grads. The Wolves returned home 24 hours after their 4-2 loss to the Carleton Place Canadians. John Gedraitis was in goal following back to back games against the Smiths Falls Bears. Nick Kurtiak who was given a day off on Friday night against the Carleton Place Canadians got the start in goal.
The Nepean Raiders scored the first two goals of the contest from Luka Benoit and Carter Williamson respectively. As for Benoit’s goal, it was his 20th goal of the season. Best of all, the Raiders outshot the Wolves 14-11.
The Renfrew Wolves answered back when the former Nepean Raider in Dylan Paron scored back to back goals in the second period including one on a solo breakaway. Despite that, the Nepean Raiders still outshot the Renfrew Wolves. This time it was a 14-9 margin.
That would be all the offense the Renfrew Wolves could muster in this one as the Nepean Raiders scored the last three goals in the third period. The first goal in the third period came when Mikayil Kahriman deposited a shot wide open. It was Kahriman’s ninth goal of the season and his first goal against his former team. The Raiders scored the last two goals from Tristan Konobelj and Peter Freel respectively. Freel has three goals in the last two games whereas Mikayil Kahriman now has points in three consecutive games.
Renfrew got frustrated with Nepean including fights erupting all over the place. In the end, it was the Nepean Raiders who came out on top as they buried the Renfrew Wolves by a final score of 5-2.
Not only did Nepean win four of five games against the Renfrew Wolves this year, but they have now won eight of the last eleven games against Renfrew.
For the three star selection with the game winning goal, it was Mikayil Kahriman who was awarded the game’s first star for the Nepean Raiders. With a goal and an assist it was Tristan Konobelj who earned the game’s second star for the Nepean Raiders and last but not least, the former Nepean Raider in Dylan Paron who scored back to back goals for the Renfrew Wolves was given the game’s third star.
Nepean’s next game will be less than 24 hours from now when the Navan Grads come to town tomorrow for a 2:30PM puck drop.
