Papineau, Campbell and Benoit Lead Offense In 6-5 Loss to Hawkesbury

by Romano Di Franco

The Nepean Raiders traveled to the Robert Hartley Sports Complex to begin a brief two game road trip, starting with a road game against the Hawkesbury Hawks. Nepean has played the Hawks once before and that came almost a month ago on September 15th during the Showcase at the Benson Centre. They won that game by a final score of 5-4 in Overtime. John Gedraitis who was fantastic in his last start against the Smiths Falls Bears got the start in this game. Meanwhile for Hawkesbury, Jabe Breitzke got the call in goal.

Here’s a quick breakdown of key highlights:
  • First Period: Both teams came out strong, with the score tied 3-3. Nepean’s Nicolas Papineau netted two goals, and Hawkesbury’s Michael Minchello scored his first of the night.
  • Second Period: Hawkesbury pulled ahead 5-3, thanks to goals from Brayden Besner and Michael Minchello (his second). Both goals came on power plays.
  • Third Period: Nepean tried to make a comeback with a goal by Deklyn Campbell and a last-second tally from Luka Benoit at 19:56, but Edward Downey’s unassisted goal at 15:31 helped Hawkesbury secure the win.

Three Stars of the Game:

  1. Michael Minchello (Hawkesbury Hawks) – 2 goals, 1 assist
  2. Edward Downey (Hawkesbury Hawks) – 1 goal
  3. Remi Gelinas (Hawkesbury Hawks) – 1 goal, 2 assists

A high-energy match with strong offensive plays and intense back-and-forth action!

Nepean’s next game will be a Sunday night game which is a 7:00PM puck drop against the Pembroke Lumber Kings.
