The Nepean Raiders played out on the second game of their mini homestand by hosting the Navan Grads. The Raiders were fresh off of a 5-0 loss to the Renfrew Wolves and also the Grads were coming off an 8-3 drubbing against the Kemptville 73s.
For the starting goalies, Evan Grant made his Raiders debut today while Cooper Flemming who allowed three goals in relief in that aforementioned game got the start for the Grads.
Nepean got off to a terrific start by scoring the first two goals in the span of one minute. Jackson Legault and Ryan Kinghan scored the goals for the Raiders. Navan scored two goals of their own from Michael Robertson and Braydon Lindsay.
In the second period, Nepean had two Grade A scoring chances. The first was when Cooper Grant hit the goal post and the second was when Jack Yates was robbed of a wonderful scoring opportunity. In fact the only goal to report in the second period was from Andrew Waugh which was his fifth goal of the season. Owen Knight and Mathieu Paris got the assists.
Although there were no goals in the third period, the Raiders had a fantastic chance to tie the game at three when Noah Bath shot the puck only to have Cooper Flemming stretch out to make the save.
The final score ended up being 3-2 Navan Grads despite Nepean’s best chances to get back in the game.
For the three star selections, Andrew Waugh who scored a goal and an assist was rewarded the first star of the game for the Navan Grads, for his two assist outing Mathieu Paris was named the second star of the game for Navan. Finally, for an impressive debut making 32 saves, Evan Grant who was acquired by the Ottawa Junior Senators was given the third star for the Nepean Raiders.
Nepean’s next game will take place on Friday, January 16th when they visit the Brockville Braves at the Brockville Memorial Centre.
