The Nepean Raiders travelled to the Ed Lumley Arena for their Thursday night tilt against the Cornwall Colts. Nepean was coming off a 2-1 victory against the Carleton Place Canadians whilst the Colts was just fresh off a shootout victory against the Brockville Braves. John Gedraitis got the start for Nepean while Colton Rheaume was in net for the hometown Colts.
Nepean got on the board first on a solo breakaway goal from Luka Benoit who tallied his ninth of the season. The Ottawa native has always put up amazing results against Cornwall. A minute after Benoit’s goal, Lyndon Lamb knotted the game at one a piece which was his sixth of the campaign. Jack Kent and Derek Rhodes got the assists. Best of all, the Nepean Raiders had outshot the Cornwall Colts 14-8.
Each team exchanged great goals in the second period. First of all, Timothy Walker scored his fifth on the year on a wonderful pass to Luc Beliveau. A minute and a half after the goal was scored, Julian Kemp scored his first goal of the season and his first goal in a Nepean Raiders jersey. Just before the second period ended, Timothy Walker scored his second goal of the game assisted from Jack Kent.
Two minutes into the third period, Lucas Leblanc scored his first goal of the season as well as his first goal in a Raiders uniform. His goal was also the first since the team acquired him in a trade with the Ottawa Junior Senators.
For the fourth time in the game, the Colts engineered the lead on the strength of Joe Vida’s first of the year. That lead would not last as Lucas Leblanc scored his second goal of the game assisted from Carter Williamson.
Cornwall then closed out the scoring with goals from Timothy Walker which was his third of the game as well as Lyndon Lamb and Derek Rhodes.
For the three star selections, with his hat-trick Timothy Walker was named the first star for the Cornwall Colts, for his two goal performance Lucas Leblanc was rewarded the second star of the game for the Nepean Raiders and last but not least for his three assist performance, Jack Kent was named the third star for the Colts.
Nepean’s next game will take place in less than 24 hours when they visit the Brockville Braves for a Halloween tilt-up.
