Konobelj Leads Offense In Blowout Loss to Grads

The Nepean Raiders welcomed the Navan Grads to the Nepean Sportsplex Steve Yzerman Arena to complete a mini-game weekend. The Raiders were coming off a brilliant outing on Saturday against the Renfrew Wolves. On the other hand, Navan had their five game losing streak snapped against the Rockland Nationals. For the starting goalies having been given the day off yesterday against the aforementioned game, Otsirakatste Brant got the start in goal for Nepean. For the second time in five days, Kian Hodgins was in goal for the Grads.

To start off the first period, the Nepean Raiders were able to poor on the pressure against the Navan Grads with two great defensive shots on net from David Taylor and Owen Kinghan respectively.

Despite Nepean heavily outshooting the Grads 13-9 in the opening period, Navan scored the first the first three goals from Shaan Kingwell, Aidan Connors and Sebbie Johnson.

The Grads scored the next two goals of the game from Kiki Brown and Sebbie Johnson who scored his second goal of the game respectively. Nepean’s best play of the second period was when Johnson before had Otsirakatste Brant beat, but it was David Taylor who saved a goal mid-way through the second period.

Although the Navan Grads scored the next two goals from Ethan Smith and Sebbie Johnson who completed the hat-trick, Tristan Knobelj who was honored during the pre-game ceremony for the Nepean Raiders scored his ninth goal of the season and the third in his last four games. Dylan Pollock and David Taylor who both are in their over-age years, contributed to the goal.

Navan closed out the scoring with Kiki Brown’s second goal of the afternoon.

For the three star selection, with five points of the game it was Sebbie Johnson who earned the first star of the game. Having made 33 of the 34 saves in the game, it was Kian Hodgins who was named the second star of the game and with five shots on net in the game, it was Josh Caesar who was given the game’s third star for the Nepean Raiders.

Nepean’s next game will take place on Friday, February 14th when they visit the Rockland Nationals at the Rockland CIHA Arena Pad – 1 in hopes that they can pull off a major upset in the next game.
