Kinghan and NcWana Lead The Offense In 7-2 Loss to Kemptville

by Romano Di Franco

The Nepean Raiders travelled to the North Greenville Municpal Centre to see the Kemptville 73s for the first road game of the 2026-27 season. For the starting goalies, Evan Grant who stopped 33 shots in the last game got the start in goal while Jacob Turpin got the call in goal for the 73s.

Kemptville opened the scoring with the first two goals from Thomas Dickey and Jay Zeus Mbarushimana. In the second period, the Raiders would cut the 73s lead in half with Hunter McWana’s goal assisted from Tyler Smith and Lincoln Baker. It was McWana’s first goal of the season and the first since being acquired by the two-time defending CCHL champion Rockland Nationals. That goal was also on the powerplay. The 73s took over the rest of the second period with goals from Mbarushimana, Riley Streska, Cameron Kealy and Morgan Henderson who scored twice.

It was a wild second period with a couple fights in that frame alone.

Nepean would add another goal in the game and that on the powerplay when Ryan Kinghan scored his first goal of the season assisted from Reed Pettipas and Lincoln Baker. It was Baker’s second assist on the game and Pettipas’ second point in as many games.

For the three star selections, having scored twice in the game Morgan Henderson was rewarded the first star of the game for the Kemptville 73s, for his two assist performance Lincoln Baker was given the second star of the game for the Nepean Raiders and finally Cameron Kealy with a goal and an assist of his own was given the third star of the game for Kemptville.

Nepean’s next game will take place on Sunday September 20th when the Raiders play host to the Hawkesbury Hawks. This was a team that Nepean won four of five games against last year.
