Houben, Williamson and Campbell Lead Offense in 7-6 OT Loss to Carleton Place

by Romano DiFranco

The Nepean Raiders began their five game road trip by visiting the Carleton Place Canadians in the Carleton Place Rink 1 for the start of their five game road trip. Nepean came off a defiant overtime performance against the Hawkesbury Hawks in which they would ultimately lose. Meanwhile the Canadiens would fall just short having lost 4-3 in regulation to the Smiths Falls Bears. For the starting goalies, John Gedraitis who made 37 saves in his last start was in goal again for the Raiders while Ian Vadenburg got the call for the Canadians.

Once again, it didn’t take long for the Raiders to get on the board first as fifty six seconds into the game, it was Andrew Thompson who scored his first career CCHL goal on a turnover at the Carleton Place blue line. The lead did not last long as Jackson Froysland would respond thirty seconds after the goal by Thompson. William Bouwer and Sam Allaby would draw the assists.

The Nepean Raiders would lead the shots on goal in that first period having outshot the Canadians 13-8.

The second period saw both teams exchange goals as Loic Prud’homme scored twice in that frame. The only other goal for the Canadians was from Finn Barton. The only goal from the Raiders was from Tristan Konobelj.

Despite those flurry of goals for Carleton Place, the Raiders would heavily outshoot the Canadians 15-10.

Thirty four seconds into the third period, Ryan Small extended the Canadians lead to 5-2. The Raiders would not go down without a fight as they clawed themselves back into the game with goals from Mikayil Kahriman, Carter Williamson, Nick Houben and Deklyn Campbell. Twenty seconds after the Campbell goal, it was Anderson Hapke who tied the game at six setting the stages for overtime.

The high scoring barnburner would end when Henry Doucet fired a long shot at center ice capping off a 7-6 victory for the Carleton Place Canadians.

Nepean wasn’t too beat up about it as they had a great work ethic by earning the bonus point for taking the game to overtime.

Three Stars

  1. Henry Doucet (CP): 1 Goal, 1 Assist
  2. Loic Prud’homme (CP): 2 Goals, 1 Assist
  3. Nick Houben (NEP): 1 Goal, 1 Assist

An intense game with a thrilling overtime finish! The Carleton Place Canadians edged out the Nepean Raiders thanks to Henry Doucet’s heroics in OT.

Nepean’s next game will take place on Sunday January 19th when they visit the Pembroke Lumber Kings at the Pembroke Memorial Centre. These two teams have split the results with each club winning a game.
