Grant Scores Twice In Penultimate Game

by Romano Di Franco

The Nepean Raiders played their final road game of the season as well as their second to last game overall as they visited the Hawkesbury Hawks for the last time this year. Nepean came into this game hoping to move on from a tough 3-1 loss to the Navan Grads. Meanwhile the Hawks put up a dominating performance against the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

For the starting goalies, Evan Grant got the call in goal for the Raiders and Dylan Michelow was in goal for the Hawks.

Although there were no goals to report, the Hawks outshot the Raiders 14-8 in that first period alone. Evan Grant was magnificent as he stopped all 14 shots he faced as part of helping the Nepean Raiders in the future.

Cooper Grant and Noah Bath opened the scoring for the Nepean Raiders in the second period. Despite being outshot 22-7, Evan Grant put on a masterclass as he stopped all 22 shots he faced in the period itself.

The Hawks finally got on the board when Albert Genest scored his fifth goal of the season assisted from Arthur Lalonde. Twenty seconds later, Rowan Cantrell netted his fifth goal of the year of his own assisted from Mack  McKee on the powerplay.

Nepean ended any hopes of Hawkesbury pulling off a comeback when Cooper Grant scored his second goal of the contest. Notably, Cooper scored the first goal of the game and the last goal of the game too.

For the three star selections for his 49 save performance, Evan Grant was rewarded the first star of the game for the Nepean Raiders, for his aforementioned two goal game, Cooper Grant was named the second star of the game for Nepean and having played his very last CCHL game for the Hawkesbury Hawks and having been given a standing ovation from the crowd, Edward Downey was named the third star of the game.

Nepean’s final game of the season will be held on Sunday, March 15th when they host the Kemptville 73s.
