Gedraitis and Tellier Power Raiders Over Canadians

by Romano Di Franco

The Nepean Raiders returned home following a short road trip to face off against the Carleton Place Canadians at the Nepean Sportsplex Steve Yzerman Arena. The Raiders came off a game where it was postponed and that was last week against the Pembroke Lumber Kings at the Pembroke Memorial Centre. There will be a make up game and that has yet to be announced. Meanwhile the Carleton Place Canadians were coming off a tough 6-2 loss to the Kemptville 73s.

For the starting goalies, John Gedraitis got the start in goal for the Nepean Raiders and Will Ross got the call for the Carleton Place Canadians.

The game was delayed by fifteen minutes due to fire alarms at the Nepean Sportsplex, but when the game finally got underway, the first period was a pretty routine affair with only three penalty minutes being issued. The Carleton Place Canadians appeared to have gotten on the board first from Gabriel Bergeron’s first goal of the season. That was overturned due to goalie interference. The only goal to report that actually counted was Raphael Tellier’s third goal of the season. It was the first of two goals he scored in that game alone. Tristan Konobelj and Tyler Smith got the helpers for Nepean.

Not only did Nepean outshoot Carleton Place 14-11, but John Gedraitis was fantastic in that period.

Just like in the first period, the second period was a routine affair with two penalty minutes being issued. Also, the only goal of the second period was from Raphael Tellier assisted from Owen Kinghan.

Even though the shots on net were 12 a piece. John Gedraitis stopped all 12 shots in the second period and more importantly it was Raphael Tellier 2 the Carleton Place Canadians 0.

The third period saw Gabriel Bergeron score his first goal of the season for real sees. Joe Devlin assisted on the goal. With Will Conway at the bench for an extra attacker, the Carleton Place Canadians poured the pressure on the Nepean Raiders. In the end, it was the Raiders who pulled off a 2-1 victory in front of their fans. Before Nepean even celebrated, the Raiders and the Canadians got into some sort of fisticuffs.

Nepean will win their fifth game of the year, while the Carleton Place Canadians had lost their fourth straight game.

For the three star selections, with his two goal performance, Raphael Tellier was named the first star of the game, with his 32 save performance John Gedraitis was awarded the second star of teh game for the Nepean Raiders and having stopped 31 of the 33 shots on goal Will Conway was named the third star of the game.

The Raiders will be on the road for a couple of Halloween games starting on Thursday October 30th against the Cornwall Colts.

Happy Early Halloween from the Nepean Raiders.
