The Nepean Raiders travelled to the Ed Lumley Arena for their short two game road trip to see the Cornwall Colts for the first of five get togethers this season. The Raiders were coming off a convincing 4-3 win over the Hawkesbury Hawks in Overtime. Meanwhile Cornwall was coming off a tough 5-3 loss to the Smiths Falls Bears.
For the starting goalies, Otsirakatste Brant who was outstanding on Sunday got the start for the Raiders and Colton Rheaume who was in net for that aforementioned game got the start for the Colts.
Two minutes into the game, Timothy Walker scored the game’s first goal for the Colts and that on the powerplay. Brandon Rockwell and Fraser McDonnell got the assists. It was the fourth straight game the opening goal was scored on the opposition. Nepean responded with their own powerplay goal when Adam Walker scored on a tap-in play. It was his second goal of the season and his first against his former team. Tyler Smith and Lucas Leblanc got the assists on the goal.
Just before the intermission, Fraser McDonnel scored on a long shot from the point that beat Brant. It was his first goal of the season assisted from Nash Luther and Houston Johnston.
The second period featured some quality chances for the Nepean Raiders including a solo breakaway from Ryan Kinghan. Colton Rheuame stood on his head. The only goal to report in that period was from Brayden Blyth which was his first career CCHL goal assisted from Ryan English and Reed Pettipas.
Thirty seconds into the third period, Timothy Walker scored his second goal of the game on the powerplay assisted from Owen Converse and Fraser McDonnell. After that goal, the Nepean Raiders took over the rest of the game as Ryan English scored twice in the third period. Cole Krottner and Brody Schultz got the other goals for Nepean to cap off a 6-3 victory for them.
For the three star selections, for his two goal and one assist performance Ryan English was given the first star of the game for Nepean, for a two goal effort of his own Timothy Walker was rewarded the second star for the Colts and Tyler Smith who assisted twice was named the third star.
Nepean’s next game will take place tomorrow in Brockville for a 7:30PM puck drop.
