Campbell Nets 20th Goal Of The Season In 4-3 Loss To Pembroke

The Nepean Raiders travelled to the Pembroke Memorial Centre for game two of their five game road trip against the Pembroke Lumber Kings. The Raiders came off a high scoring affair against the Carleton Place Canadians in which they would lose 7-6 in overtime. The Pembroke Lumber Kings prevailed 4-1 in their previous game against the Smiths Falls Bears. For the starting goalies, after two consecutive starts from John Gedraitis, Nepean went back to Otsirakatste Brant in goal. Jack Ferguson made his ninth career CCHL start in the game.

The Pembroke Lumber Kings would get on the board first when Dean Carvalho scored top shelf on Otsirakatste Brant. Nepean would respond late in the frame when Nick Houben scored on a deflected pass from Deklyn Campbell. It was Houben’s ninth goal of the season. Not only did Campbell assist on the goal, but Zack Freimuth contributed as well. It was his first career CCHL point.

By the end of the first period, the shots on net were even at eleven a piece.

Although they were no goals to report in the second period, Otsirakatste Brant made some great saves for the Nepean Raiders including one where he forced to make a huge save at the buzzer. The shots on net in that second period were 10-9 in favor of the Pembroke Lumber Kings, but Brant was brilliant in that second period.

It didn’t take long for the Raiders to respond in the third period when Tyler Smith scored thirty three seconds into the final half. Pembroke would answer back when Jayson Alegria rifled a shot past Otsirakatste Brant. It was his league leading 35th goal of the season.

Nepean would regain the lead when Deklyn Campbell scored on a turnover by the Lumber Kings. It was his team leading 20th goal of the season. The Lumber Kings would tie the game at three when Dean Carvalho scored his second goal of the game. Pembroke would close out the scoring when Maverick Hayes fired a shot from the point with thirty seconds left in regulation.

This was the third and last meeting of the season for these two teams at the Pembroke Memorial Centre. The next two games for these two teams will be at the Nepean Sportsplex Steve Yzerman Arena on February 26th and March 5th respectively.
