Benoit, Konobelj and Turcotte Combine in Dominating 6-0 Win Against Renfrew

by Romano Di Franco

The Raiders returned home to the Nepean Sportsplex Steve Yzerman Arena to continue their winning ways hosting the Renfrew Wolves. Nepean came into this game having edged out the Brockville Braves 6-5. The Wolves came into that game shutting out the Cornwall Colts 4-0. For the starting goalies, John Gedraitis got the start again looking to continue his improved play while Nick Kurtiak who was perfect stopping all 23 shots got the start in goal for Renfrew.

Continuing their high dominance against the Wolves, the Nepean Raiders put up goals in a hurry when they scored goals from Dylan Turcotte, Peter Freel and Luka Benoit.

By the end of the first period the shots on net were 8-7 in favor of Nepean. On top of that, Nick Kurtiak had a rough afternoon as he allowed three goals on eight shots. He was replaced by Luke Suys.

Even with the goaltending change, the Raiders still continued to put up goals with Tristan Konobelj and Luka Benoit scoring his second goal of the game to make it 5-0 Raiders. Best of all, Nepean outshot the Renfrew Wolves 14-11.

The Raiders would add one last goal when Deklyn Campbell capitalized on a fantastic saucer pass from Luka Benoit. More importantly, it was John Gedraitis who stole the show as he picked up his first career CCHL shutout stopping all 24 shots.

Three Stars of the Game:

  1. John Gedraitis (Nepean Raiders, Goalie): 24 saves on 24 shots, complete game shutout.
  2. Luka Benoit (Nepean Raiders, Forward): 2 goals.
  3. Jesse Lefebvre (Renfrew Wolves).

The Nepean Raiders dominated both offensively and defensively, securing a shutout win led by John Gedraitis in net and strong contributions from Luka Benoit.

The Nepean Raiders next game will be held on October 30th when they play game two of their rivalry series against the Ottawa Junior Senators at the Jim Durrell Sports Complex.
