by Romano Di Franco

The Raiders travelled to the my FM Recreational Complex for game three of the season series against the Renfrew Wolves. The Wolves came into this game having won two of their last three games. The Raiders come into this game having fell just short of a comeback against the Kemptville 73s. John Gedraitis who went 4-0-1 in his last five starts and had given up two or fewer goals in four of the last five games got the start in goal for Nepean. Nick Kurtiak made his first start in two weeks with his last start coming in a 9-1  blowout loss to the Hawkesbury Hawks.

Despite some pretty good scoring chances from either side of the ice, the only goal of the first period was from Luka Benoit assisted from Tristan Konobelj. He is expected to appear in the CCHL All-Star Game this Tuesday in the Smiths Falls Memorial Centre.

By the end of the first period, the Wolves outshot the Raiders 14-10.

The second period was all Renfrew as they scored each of the next three goals with Mathieu Fehr scoring twice in the game and the only other goal scored was from Edouard Souliere.

The Wolves would outshoot the Raiders 18-13 in the second period.

Although the Raiders would get one goal back from Dekyln Campbell, that would be all the goal scoring in the game. Tristan Konobelj assisted for his second point of the game, John Lumsden would pick up his 22nd assist on the season. That puts him in an exclusive list of assist leaders among defensemen.

Three Stars:

  1. Nick Kurtiak (REN, #40)
    • SV: 37, TOI: 60:00
  2. Mathieu Fehr (REN, #24)
    • G: 2, A: 1
  3. Luka Benoit (NEP, #13)

A strong performance by Renfrew Wolves’ goaltender Nick Kurtiak and Mathieu Fehr’s offensive efforts secured the win despite a late push by the Nepean Raiders.

Nepean’s next game will be tomorrow against the Brockville Braves at the Nepean Sportsplex Steve Yzerman Arena.
