Baker Scores In Raiders Home Opener Season Opener

by Romano Di Franco

The Raiders played out their home opener season opener by welcoming the Renfrew Wolves to the Nepean Sportsplex Steve Yzerman Arena. Nepean went 4-1 in the pre-season while Renfrew went 2-4 in the exhibition portion.

For the starting goalies, Evan Grant got the start having gone 2-1 in the pre-season. Mason Costa got the call for the Wolves.

Renfrew got the first two goals from Sebastien Erkenbolling and Kyle Cameron in the first period.

Nepean had two wonderful scoring opportunities. For starters, Jack Malandra had Mason Costa beat but all he could find was iron. Brody Schultz went on a short-handed breakaway but missed the net. Renfrew either way scored the next three goals from Mannix Hart, Nathan Desanto and Jordan Laroda.

The Wolves scored the final two goals from Nathan Desanto who scored his second goal of the game and Conor Dervin. The Raiders broke through when Lincoln Baker fired a shot that popped the water bottle which was the first goal of the 2026-27 season for the Raiders.

For the three star selections, having scored twice Nathan Desanto was rewarded the first star of the game for the Wolves, for his 39 save performance Mason Costa was given the second star of the game. Last but not least, Lincoln Baker who scored the first goal of the year for the Raiders is the third star of the game for Nepean.

Nepean’s next game will take place on September 18th when they visit the Kemptville 73s at the North Greenville Municpal Centre.
