Nepean, ON – The Nepean Raiders have completed a trade with the Carleton Place Canadians, acquiring 2005-born forward Owen Smetham in exchange for a Player Development Fee.
Smetham was born in Bath, England, but calls Carleton Place home. Billed at 5’11” and 176lbs, Smetham plays a hard and heavy style of forechecking hockey that will blend well into the Raiders offence.
Owen has spent parts of the past three seasons with the Canadians, totalling 5 assists in 28gp as well as four playoff games. His junior career has also seen stops in the EOJHL with Carleton Place’s Jr. B team, scoring 18 goals and 49 points in 50 games, as well as a brief tour of the Northern Ontario Jr. A Hockey League with the Powassan VooDoos, racking up 3 goals and 6 points in 26 games.
Owen reunites with former CPC teammates Dylan Pollock, Thomas Dickey, and Liam Carroll in the Black and Red. We’re very excited to have him join the Raiders!
GM Lino Dixon gave this statement about the left-shot forward:
“Smetham is a player that will fit right in with our group due to his high character and re-connecting with some former teammates. His experience in our league will help our group both on and off the ice.”
Smetham will wear #6 this season.
Welcome to Nepean, Owen!
